What is laparoscopy and why would I need one?

April 28, 2018

A laparoscopy is the best way for me to see inside the belly.

The procedure is a type of keyhole surgery where I make small incisions in the abdomen and feed in a thin tube with a camera and light to get a full picture from inside the belly and pelvis.

I use laparoscopic surgery to help diagnose and treat:

  • endometriosis
  • ovarian cysts
  • causes of infertility
  • reasons for pelvic pain
  • reasons for painful and heavy periods
  • ectopic pregnancies

A laparoscopy is done under general anaesthetic but you usually don’t need to stay in hospital overnight.

As there are only minor incisions, you recover quicker with less pain and heal nicely with smaller scars.
