Reproductive carrier screening assesses a couple's risk of passing on inherited genetic conditions like cystic fibrosis or fragile X syndrome. Many healthy individuals can be carriers without knowing. Screening is available before or during early pregnancy, ideally before, to allow time to consider reproductive options should an increased risk be identified.
