What to expect during labour

In most pregnancies, labour will start naturally between 37 and 42 weeks. When labour starts on its own it is called spontaneous labour.

Sometimes labour may need to be ‘induced’, but we will discuss this with you if this does need to occur.

Everyone experiences pain differently.

The pain associated with labour and childbirth is no different.

There are many options to help you cope with labour, from natural and non-medical pain relief to medical relief including gas and epidurals.

There may be circumstances where you and your baby will benefit from birth happening sooner.
